Another day in Austria

Today we actually travel to two different towns along the Danube River. We start the morning by docking in the old town of Durnstein. The river sits at the bottom of a hill and we start walking along the walls of the old walled city, on medieval cobblestoned streets.

The streets are lined with shops and residences.

The detail in architecture is mind boggling

We climb even higher and can see the ruins of the castle where Richard The Lionhearted was imprisoned in 1192.

From here we look down on the Danube and see the blue facade of the Baroque Stiftskirche, Durnstein’s famed church tower

We set sail during lunch and arrive at Melk for our afternoon tour.
