This weekend we spent in Massachusetts, visiting Bailey and gang. She has been looking forward to us coming to see the house that she purchased. We stayed in a KOA outside of Springfield Mass. surrounded by farm country.

We bought sandwiches on our way in at a local farm, picked up Bailey and her high school friend, Fev, and headed to a park for a picnic

.

Bailey made Tom a “Wood Elf Crown”of fallen leaves, which he wore with pride.

We drove Fev back to her home, which is Holyoke University, one of the Seven Sisters schools, which has historic building and acres of open areas.

When I dreamt of visiting New England in the fall color season, I did not realize that New England is a large area with many diverse weather patterns. Trees are starting to lose their leaves in one area, and in where another they are just beginning the change. In the morning, we watch leaves rain down as the trees shed their leaves, and by the afternoon we were in an entirely different area where the leaves haven’t change at all.

We stopped for lunch in Connecticut next to a dam that was built in the 1930’s.

The gatehouse design was influenced by the Little Maplestead Church in Essex, England.

That church was built  about 1335.

Driving through expansive countryside we saw ponds, lakes, rivers and creeks.

All along the route we stop so that I can get photos.

Traveling in Connecticut, we found communities that had made the curbs from granite. Imagine the labor and costs involved in cutting and shaping granite instead of simply pouring them with concrete.

We came upon a farm stand featuring fresh vegetables. We were able to pick up some good, healthy veggies to add to our dinner menu.

Headed to the campground that we will spend the night, and have those veggies.
