This city was built on the conjunction point of the Danube, Inn and Ilz Rivers. It is rainy and quite cool. There are people on the ship who are deciding to stay aboard and forego another “ABC” tour. Our tour guide taught us that phrase. ABC..Another Bloody Church or Another Bloody Castle. And what do we have here? We are headed to the church.

Just look at this door…and this handle on the entry door.

St Stephan’s Cathedral is home to one of the largest church pipe organs in the world (17,774 pipes and 233 registers) and ceilings that reach to the sky.

Nothing is understated in this church, not even the pulpit. (Imagine standing put there doing a reading!)

What comes to our minds is that during the time that these buildings were being built the townspeople were living in severe poverty. But such great wealth was put into these magnificent structures and because of their sacrifices we now, centuries later, have them to show us the workmanship and attention to detail the artists demonstrated. Artists no longer have the time nor is there the appreciation to persevere to create such bodies of art.
